At Icon, we get a variety of questions from people who are having trouble getting things to print right. We also sometimes receive payments from our churches where the amounts, dates, and so on don’t line up as they should, so maybe more customers than we know suffer in silence through the ordeal of misaligned printing.
There’s no need to suffer. To achieve reporting and printing bliss with IconCMO, you just need to accomplish two things:
-
Get your browser to allow pop ups from CMO.
-
Get your browser to use Adobe Reader.
That’s what this post is all about.
For more information, detailed instructions or troubleshooting you can look up the Browser Settings Document under “! getting started” in the upper right of your CMO account, or the “PDFs not showing up properly” document under “? help!” in the upper right.
Browsers
Your internet browser is the program you use to go on the internet.
Internet Explorer is the program that comes with Windows computers. Safari is the browser that comes with Apple products. But you can download other browsers like Google Chrome or Firefox for free online.
If you’re using a Windows computer, we recommend using Chrome or Firefox instead of Internet Explorer when you log into your IconCMO account, especially if you’re having problems while using Internet Explorer.
Get your browser to allow pop ups from IconCMO.
IconCMO uses pop ups to give you the best possible user experience. These pop ups may show you a summary report of the donations you just posted. We also use a pop up when you post a check so that a PDF of the check comes up on your screen that you can print onto your pre-printed checks.
Most pop ups from websites are annoying advertisements and the like, so browsers have settings for blocking pop ups. These settings get in IconCMO’s way and keep it from doing it’s job, so it’s important to have your browser set correctly to allow the pop ups from IconCMO.
Below are instructions for getting each of the main four browsers to work with IconCMO pop ups.
Safari
Good news for you Apple users: Safari cooperates pretty easily with IconCMO. Just one thing to check.
Go to Safari’s “Preferences”.
Click on Security at the top, and make sure the Pop Up Blocker is unchecked.
Pop ups are an all-or-nothing proposition with Safari, so if you want your CMO pop ups to pop up, you have to just let Safari allow pop ups.
Get your browser to use Adobe Reader.
PDF readers can create printing problems, especially if you’re printing a check that needs to be sized correctly so that the amount, vendor, date and so on all go exactly where they are supposed to. The reader program can adjust the size of the printout (usually to leave space for a slight margin around the edges), making it misaligned with the blank check you’re printing on.
The surest remedy we can give you is to make sure the PDFs are opening in Adobe Reader. You can go to Adobe’s website to get a free download of a version that will work on your operating system.
Once you have the PDF open in Adobe Reader, just make sure you print it ‘Actual Size’, instead of some other setting. (see below)
Now let’s look at how to get your particular browser to use Adobe Reader instead of something else.
Safari
If you have Adobe Reader installed, you shouldn’t have any problem. Safari should open PDFs with Adobe Reader. It may open in another tab of Safari, but if you hover the cursor over the bottom of the window, you’ll see icons appear including the Adobe swirly triangle symbol. (see example below)
