April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. It has been since 1983. During April, government agencies, schools, religious organizations, celebrities and others make an especially focused effort to raise awareness of child abuse and seek ways to come to the aid of its victims.
One step that churches can take to prevent child abuse is to take precautions when hiring people to positions where they’ll be working closely with children. It’s good for churches to know ahead of time whether those being considered for these roles have any known history of child abuse.
That’s the purpose of our partnership with SecureSearch. SecureSearch is a service that has provided background-check and screening services for various kinds of employers since 2006.
We’d like to take this opportunity to remind our clients of the integration we’ve created between IconCMO and SecureSearch. The integration allows you to use SecureSearch’s features to perform background checks on individuals saved in your IconCMO system whom you may be considering for employment.

It’s part of our commitment to helping churches create a safe environment where both church staffs and congregations have peace of mind.
I wanted to include something about responsible parties when it comes to reporting child abuse. The laws for responsible parties vary by state, but you might be interested in the following resource from Health and Human Services on the topic:
